Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 30, 2026
Yapply ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Yapply is used by young people as well as adults, and under-13 accounts can only be created by a parent or guardian who has given consent first.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or Microsoft, we receive a unique identifier and basic profile details (such as your name or email) needed to create your account.
- Profile you create. Your display name, avatar photo, color, bio, status and any profile customizations.
- Date of birth. Collected once, so we can tell adults from minors and protect younger members. It is stored separately from your public profile: other users only ever see whether you are an adult or a minor, never the date itself.
- Content you share. Messages, voice messages, photos, videos, files, reactions, and other content you send in hubs or direct messages.
- Device tokens. A push notification token so we can deliver alerts to your device.
- Usage & safety data. Limited information used to operate moderation and keep communities safe (for example, flagged content events), plus read state and activity within your groups.
- Crash and diagnostic data. If the app crashes we receive a technical report so we can fix it.
- Parental consent records. For an account created by a guardian, the signed consent they provided. It is stored privately and only ever seen by our moderators.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate Yapply — messaging, calls, hubs, and notifications.
- To keep the platform safe through automated and human moderation.
- To respond to your requests and support inquiries.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Yapply. Content may be processed by these services solely to deliver the app's features:
- Self-hosted backend — our own servers store your account and messages.
- LiveKit — powers real-time voice and video calls.
- Apple, Google, and Microsoft — provide secure sign-in.
- OpenAI — used to automatically screen text and images for unsafe content.
- Anthropic — used to summarise a busy channel when you ask it to.
- Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — deliver notifications to your device.
- Google Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash reports so we can fix faults.
Data retention & deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app (You → Delete Account), or by emailing us. Your profile, email, date of birth, memberships and device tokens are removed, and messages you sent are detached from you so they can no longer be traced back to your account. Encrypted backups roll for up to 30 days. Some records may be retained where required for safety or legal reasons.
Full details, including how a parent can request deletion of their child's account: deleting your account.
Children
A child under 13 cannot create a Yapply account themselves — the app refuses it. An account for a child under 13 can only be created by a parent or guardian, who confirms their consent in writing before any of the child's information is collected. We keep a record of that consent.
Parents and guardians can ask us at any time to see what we hold about their child, to have it deleted, or to stop any further collection. Email [email protected] — you do not need a Yapply account to do this, and you do not need to give a reason.
We do not show advertising to anyone, and we never sell or share children's personal information. More for parents: Yapply for parents.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above when we do.
